Calliope Drawing

Hi There, World. How do you do?

I must say, I've missed you. I've been cooped up at home, reading this book , In the Company of the Courtesan by Sarah Dunant, collaborating with th [sic] sense sketch comedy troupe's writing team, in rehearsals with the comedy troupe, filling out dates and times on my calendar obligations for the next few months (acting/artwise) and really...just truly grateful to have a little time this evening to finish up this drawing I did. The subject is my interpretation of Calliope. This is a project in collaboration with Theater In My Basement (timb). The founder and creator of Theater in My Basement, Mr. Christopher Danowski asks all participants of "9 Muses" to create work based on different "muses". This month is Calliope, next month is another one which you'll see in a future post of mine ;)

Here she is, the muse of epic poetry herself...

Artists all around the world have created performance art, visual art and stage performances centered around this particular muse. I'll share the link here once I have it so you may see for yourself.

This Greek Mythological Lady may look a little modern to you. With her Starbucksesque drinks, keyboard, bandaids and big hair. But have no fear, she's still a girl who wrestles with words. Paper notebooks or metal and plastic ones...she still pens her heart out...

Thoughts are powerful.

Hmmm...one of the questions posed to us this month was to define the word "epic" or to use it to fuel our work. I admit, I refrained from doing so. That word, that word "epic" over inundates my peers vernacular to such a degree, just the thought of it makes my mind's eye roll. Imagine that. ;)

Especially with the change of the year. By the way, Happy New Year!!! But everyone saying, "This is epic!" "My soup today was epic!" "This year is going to be epic!" "Your face is epic!" "My hair stylist is epic!" "Tonight's going to be epic!"-I am not saying it's NOT going to be epic. I'm just saying, I am over that word. I don't trust people who say it. I want to know WHAT makes the pizza epic. Why? How? If you can answer that, I'll try it. The pizza.

Much Love to you all! I appreciate your time, smile and good energy :)

Love,

Buttercup xoxo
